Poetry slam

Senior school students in Grades 9 to 12 in Mackay are invited to enter the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival’s Slam Poetry Competition.
Teams will be coached by highly acclaimed and award winning Slam Poet, Emilie Zoey-Baker.
Emilie runs Out Loud! – a slam poetry competition hosted as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival each year. To get a taste of what is involved, click here.
Individuals can enter, and teams can include 2, 3 or 4 members (max 4).
Depending on entries received, we may have two categories: Grades 9 and 10 students in one category, and Grades 11 and 12 students in another.
Teams are required to participate in a workshop hosted by Emilie (via Skype or in person) where she will present what is involved in writing and performing slam poetry, and then teams will break away into groups to work on their own poem. Emilie will work with each team to refine their poetry, and by the end of the workshop, teams should have a poem that can be refined as they practice for the competition.
Workshop Details:
Date: Tuesday 7 May 2019
Time: 4 pm - 6 pm
